Happy Leap Year!

It’s Phriday 2.29.2008, and Sunny.

My ‘contents’ routine feels like I’m looking at my inventory from a Lucas Arts point-and-click adventure game from the 90’s. ‘Unused Promotional Pamphlets’, har har.

Happy Leap Year Day! I woke up to the sound of jackhammers. The Shinkansen track behind my apartment is still being worked on, and every morning at 9am they start. Serves me right for trying to sleep in. I played chess and made breakfast and ate it until 10:30, showered and headed downtown on a mission. I’ve been needing a new futon, as mine has lost its comfortable-ness and because my father will be coming to stay with me for a few weeks, and he’ll need something decent to sleep on. Responsibility, Art

It is Thursday, 2.28.2008 and it’s sunny and warm in Hamamatsu.

Hmm… last night I downloaded the entire Tragically Hip discography… I must be missing Canada pretty badly. We’ll know it’s serious when I start needing to hear some Rush.

I woke up and made breakfast and worked a bit on a new blog post concerning intellectual property and creative commons, it didn’t really develop so I took to playing chess, over which Lee and I had a really discussion about the role of an artist (whatever that is). Family Mart Employees Are My Friends

It is Wednesday, 2.27.2008 and sunny.
For the past week or so, I’ve been avoiding the Family Mart. Luckily, there is also a 7-11 and a Sunkus within the same block of my apartment, but this is still a big deal. The Family Mart is a staple for me; snacks, quick lunch, paying bills, etc. are all accomplished at my corner store with precision and amazingly robotic politeness.

So polite in fact that a very nice lady who works the day shift that I have been having a few pleasant exchanges with, during most of which she teaches me a term or phrase that is usually helpful in these kinds of short pragmatic situations while shopping. Living with iTunes: Podcast Management

This is a bit of a guide I’ve put together for a better use of the dreaded iTunes. Unfortunately, it’s a necessary evil we all have to deal with like grocery shopping or dental hygiene. This guide is suited to me personally, and the way I like to take in my media, so please keep this in mind when reading. Hopefully, you’ll be able to get something out of these and adjust the recommendations to your tastes, enjoy!

If you’re like me, you have a lot of podcasts. I have more than a hundred subscriptions of both audio and video, which makes it too difficult to navigate in my iPod, and it’s too many clicks to sort through the ‘new if its blue’ interface. Fortunately, the Smart Playlists provide some decent solutions to this. Continue reading ‘Living with iTunes: Podcast Management’

Guiltiness and (un)Productivity

It’s Tuesday, 2.26.08, rainy and cold in Hamamatsu.
Ever pull something out of your teeth and think; “I didn’t eat anything green today…” Holy shit I need to floss more. Forget this routine of journal entries, blog posts, and weekly photography business, floss your god damn teeth!
That said, I’m feeling more and more at ease with my own deadlines. Things aren’t stressing me out as much lately, and I’m feeling as though I’ve been catching up to a point I want to be with writing and photos. By ‘lately’ I mean in the past 2 days. Productivity is good, but I’m still fucking bummed about Jeannine leaving and having to struggle the next 6 months through my time in Japan. Continue reading ‘Guiltiness and (un)Productivity’

Marx After Marxism

It is Monday, 2/25/08 and sunny.
I woke up to Jeannine calling at about 8am. She had gone snowboarding that morning and bruised her tailbone pretty badly. I said I would still love her regardless of how grotesquely deformed she had become as a result of this incident. I think it made her feel a little better. I started laundry and dishes this morning but haven’t finished either of them. I ought to. After making breakfast I read for a while and showered.
I met Petar at the train-station at about noon and we had lunch at an Indian restaurant that wasn’t the regular one I usually go to. Big step. Continue reading ‘Marx After Marxism’

Contents

It’s Sunday, 2/24/08 and it’s windy. REALLY windy!
I’m not going out until dinner tonight with Petar and Ayaka. I love having excuses for being pent up and doing nothing. Payday is tomorrow, and it’s insanely windy. Those are decent enough reasons to stay in my pajamas and play chess and write about Hilary Clinton and iTunes smart playlists all f’ing day.
After clearing my inbox, answering a comment on the Hilary post from my good friend Kenley, and reorganizing and geotagging my entire Flickr account I am still bored and needing to fill my productivity hole. Continue reading ‘Contents’
