The Usual Topics

It is 7.31.08 and it is hot and humid.

Woke up and Kenley and Brenna were getting ready to leave for Koyasan. They told me about how the Fuji climb was awesome, but if had been any more traumatic would be horrible. I went to Royal Host and had a good old fashioned Hitori Breakfast during which I emailed a mass email to everyone about a dinner in Shizuoka, my Sayonara party and a list of things I’d need to sell. Caught the train and taught my classes for the day. It was long and I’m tired. Rhonda had a tough day and Petar and I took her out for dinner. We ate and drank like kings with one queen until midnight. Hitting on all the usual topics including human excrement, copulation and epistemological foundations, I am home and drunk and trying to catch up on some emails and the blog. I also have tons of film to develop and scan, but I’m probably going to wait for Kenley and Brenna to leave because I’ll need to hang it in the shower for a day or two.

By the DS Light

It is 7.30.08 and I am lethargic and tired.

The past 2 days have been spent giving 6 hour of lessons, full-on singing and dancing, with no break and no aircon. My list of things to do is epic and I have pushed it all aside in favour of hanging out with Petar and playing videogames. Met Petar at Garuda around 1pm after having a nice talk with Jeannine while riding my bike, swerving through people and traffic. Very Japanese. Continue reading ‘By the DS Light’

Nakagawa Bros.

It is Tuesday 7.29.08 and it’s my Mom’s Birthday today.

Woke up a early and met Rhonda and Petar for breakfast. This is probably one of our last normal mornings out together, so Rhonda sprung a gift on Petar. We decided that getting him a trophy would be right up his alley, and Rhonda’s ingenuity gave us the engraving of “We love you very much, but now we must be leaving. We apologise for any inconvenience.” Except the engraver spelled it LAVE instead of LOVE. I thought it just added a special Japanese touch. Continue reading ‘Nakagawa Bros.’

Oops

It is Monday 7.28.08 and it is hot and humid and windy.

Got up early and Petar cancelled breakfast. I sat around until Kenley and Brenna woke up and then went for breakfast. While they were getting ready, I ran some errands. Paid for my flight home and charged some money to my ketai for long distance and even had time to talk to Jeannine for quite a while. I’ve got about 4 weeks until home. Amazing. Breakfast at Royal Host with K&B where both my Mom and Dad called me during the meal, and Kenley phoned home too. We planned Kenley and Brenna’s trip up Fuji-san and then I had to run to take the train. I’ll tell you how it went with them tomorrow. Continue reading ‘Oops’

Great Friends

It is Sunday 7.27.08 and it is hot and humid.

Had breakfast with Kenley this morning and we talked about things like when we were kids and talked about things. Kenley’s great and he’s too hard on himself sometimes. I miss when we used to make-believe things together, but glad that we’ve moved on to things like theories of education and consciousness. I have great friends.

Taught in my Kosai school again. Glad it’s over. That’s it, I’m fucking tired. Tomorrow I teach the same 2-day material at Iwata, but this time without a break in the middle.

Frightened Enough To Laugh

Osakanakun! It is Saturday 7.26.08 and it is hot and humid.

Last night I organized Kenley and Brenna’s trip to Hiroshima and they were up early getting ready to go walking back and forth on my futon in the hallway. It really couldn’t be helped, but I would have liked to stayed asleep longer. I got up not log after they had left and emailed a few people and poked around facebook. Jeannine and my sister Alex had taken some friends to Jeannine’s cabin in Lake of the Woods and the pictures from the outing were very typical of my regular visits. I hope to spend a significant amount of time there for at least one or two more weekends this late summer when I get back.

Showered and went downtown to drop off some 120mm, my camera-ladies weren’t there and I was confused and couldn’t remember what I usually say. They’ve been doing everything for me when I go in. This is the problem with being a big man-baby in Japan. I worked it out, and things were fine. Went to the bank to transfer money to an Osaka branch to pay for my ticket home, but it said in Kanji on the ATM that all transfers won’t be made until the 28th anyway. Thank god for my kanji dictionary on the DS. I decided I’d leave it until Monday. Continue reading ‘Frightened Enough To Laugh’

To Do…

It’s Friday, 7.25.08 and it’s hot and humid. As usual.

Woke up nice and late. I put some rice on and returned some emails and uploaded junk to facebook. Speaking of facebook, if you login to your normal account and then go to new.facebook.com you can see the new layout designs. I like the idea of changing it up, I’m just not going to know until I use it normally. Today, I’m finding it hard to relax. There’s so much to get done, and all I can think about is buying cameras and finding time to go surfing in Toyohashi. The to do list is as follows:

-Apply for a week extension of my Visa.
-Send at least 1 box home
-Send books home
-Send San’s CDs
-Apply for returning student to the UW
-Cancel Phone, Internet
-Sort out final money transfers
-Have a million goodbye parties/meetings
-Buy a Yashica TLR and a Contax SLR Continue reading ‘To Do…’
