It is Canada Day (Tuesday) 7.1.08 and it is hot and humid in Hamamatsu. It is also Jeannine’s Dad’s Birthday.
Got up really late, couldn’t sleep last night and I got up a few times literally pacing around my apartment. There’s so much to do in the next few months and I don’t want to start any of it yet. Talked to San for quite a long time about a few things. I’ve been feeling really down about leaving and going home. Not necessarily because I want to stay, but more that it’s stressful that I have to make such a big change. The truth is that I’m probably being a big baby and need to buck up.
San also mentioned the new Guy Maddin movie was playing at a local film festival and I had remembered listening to a CBC interview with him about it a few months before leaving for Japan. I can’t believe how fast this has gone. The movie, ‘My Winnipeg’ is a half documentary about Winnipeg. As stated in the most recent Letter to Nana, Winnipeg has an interesting rapport with its residents. The Weakerthans and John K. Samson in particular write about it as a home that never leaves you, but one that you secretly hate. Hate, not because it’s a bad place to live, or uninteresting and without history, but because it’s been ruined somehow… That said, I’m really looking forward to being back. I think being in Japan has made me a bit more aware of how much time I wasted back home. I’m looking forward to being a better person.
Happy Canada Day! I’m going to go out and meet Petar and Rhonda for Pakistani.

Courage my friends…
it’s not to late to make a better Canada Day…
you are so awesome.
I think you will do just fine. Canada is ready and waiting for you.
Must see that movie now.
And, yes, Jeannine is awesome.
Happy Canada Day to all!
