It’s Friday, 7.25.08 and it’s hot and humid. As usual.
Woke up nice and late. I put some rice on and returned some emails and uploaded junk to facebook. Speaking of facebook, if you login to your normal account and then go to new.facebook.com you can see the new layout designs. I like the idea of changing it up, I’m just not going to know until I use it normally. Today, I’m finding it hard to relax. There’s so much to get done, and all I can think about is buying cameras and finding time to go surfing in Toyohashi. The to do list is as follows:
-Apply for a week extension of my Visa.
-Send at least 1 box home
-Send books home
-Send San’s CDs
-Apply for returning student to the UW
-Cancel Phone, Internet
-Sort out final money transfers
-Have a million goodbye parties/meetings
-Buy a Yashica TLR and a Contax SLR
My friend Ross sent me some selections from his book and I finally got around to responding to him about them. It’s definitely interesting, and the narrative is of a character who is writing an in-depth explanation of the inner workings of a kind of Zen-based Healing philosophical view. It’s complete with a description of 4 basic ‘Energies’ of the universe and how they interact and conflict with one another. It’s interesting, but for me it’s entirely baseless. I don’t mean to be so harsh about it, I just don’t know what people mean when they say ‘Energy’.
Although, in thinking about ‘energy’, whatever that is, I’m reminded of what Yoshi’s girlfriend said to me at the HICE Sayonara party, that it was obvious to me that I can ‘read’ social situations, and approach them accordingly. I think she did, in fact, describe it as energy, but I’m not sure if that was just a lack of vocabulary or not. Regardless, I think that if you want to call ‘people interacting with other people and having/using certain expressions that are entirely understandable’ then yes, I guess you could say I read energies. This is just more to the point that when people say ‘energy’ I don’t think that they mean ‘energy’. Regardless, Ross’ book is an interesting process and he obviously takes it very seriously and it’s very important to him, so I gave him some honest feedback. I think it’s what he wanted.
Kenley and Brenna showed up around 1:30pm, and it was nice to hear that they had a great time in Tokyo. They had an easy time getting around and the roykan was excellent. At 2pm I met Petar at the station to go to the gym and we did both 40mins of cardio and weights. It was intense and I was tired as hell afterward. Headed home to hang out with Kenley and Brenna a bit, and Petar and I decided to get some coffee. We would meet Kenley, Brenna and Rhonda at the station at 7pm and then go to the Beer Garden on the Entetsu building.
The beer garden was amazing, there were a few hundred people on the top drinking and eating like hearty Japanese people. We figured out the ticket system and sat down to some great conversation and beers. Closing at 9pm, we headed home. Tomorrow is the beginning of Summer School and I’ve got an insanely long day ahead of me. Not looking forward to it, but today was good.

Good luck!!!
