It is Saturday 7.26.08 and it is hot and humid.
Last night I organized Kenley and Brenna’s trip to Hiroshima and they were up early getting ready to go walking back and forth on my futon in the hallway. It really couldn’t be helped, but I would have liked to stayed asleep longer. I got up not log after they had left and emailed a few people and poked around facebook. Jeannine and my sister Alex had taken some friends to Jeannine’s cabin in Lake of the Woods and the pictures from the outing were very typical of my regular visits. I hope to spend a significant amount of time there for at least one or two more weekends this late summer when I get back.
Showered and went downtown to drop off some 120mm, my camera-ladies weren’t there and I was confused and couldn’t remember what I usually say. They’ve been doing everything for me when I go in. This is the problem with being a big man-baby in Japan. I worked it out, and things were fine. Went to the bank to transfer money to an Osaka branch to pay for my ticket home, but it said in Kanji on the ATM that all transfers won’t be made until the 28th anyway. Thank god for my kanji dictionary on the DS. I decided I’d leave it until Monday.
Went for some breakfast and had a nice relaxing big meal. Mushroom Pizza, Mushroom Salad, copious amounts of coffee. Delicious! I went directly to Mos Burger afterward and ordered a takeout Kimpira L-Po for lunch at school. I was in Kosai by about 1pm and prepping was fanatic. I just wasn’t sure what to expect, and there was a great deal of plastic and cards to be punched out. The lessons themselves went pretty well. Some courses, the timing is off and I didn’t have time to do everything, hopefully I can make up for it tomorrow. During the lessons with younger kids, the parents come to help and supervise.
I don’t know if you know this, but middle-aged Japanese people think I’m hilarious, and it’s only accentuated by the fact their kids are having more fun than they are. It was easy, because my Japanese is about the same level as a 4 year-old, they can communicate with me pretty well, and because I watch and love a lot of Japanese television, I latch on to characters like Nabe Atsu, or Kojima or even Osakanakun and milk the shit out of them. I don’t know whether parents think those characters are actually funny, or they’re just amazed that I know them, or that they’re just frightened enough to laugh, and to tell the truth I don’t really care.
After classes I was exhausted and didn’t bother cleaning up. Went for a beer with Duffy and Petar, and then now home and crashing out while Kenley and Brenna watch 30 Rock. They had a great time in Hiroshima and it was very heavy they said. It’s sad to think I won’t be able to go before I leave :(
