Frightened

It is Friday 7.24.08 and it is hot and humid.

Woke up late and hungover. It was noon by the time I was up. Kozue had taken me out for dinner to meet her boyfriend Takeshi and we were at karaoke until pretty late. I grumblingly rolled out of Kenley and Brenna’s air-mattress bed and started my day. Jeannine called, not too long after this great rolling, and I mumbled my way through a series of hilarious topics. I returned several emails, and read the news for an hour or so. Continue reading ‘Frightened’

Hallelujah

It is Thursday 7.23.08 and it is hot and sunny and humid.

I woke up late, I planned to get up early and have breakfast with Rhonda and Petar, but instead I missed breaky and the train that I needed to be on to get to Yaizu in time for our Shizuoka Native Meeting. I arrived 8 mins late, and felt pretty bad, but had to jump right in to singing and dancing to Old McDonald, so it was hard to stay bummed. Had an excellent and productive meeting with them where I handed in all of my paperwork for the company for my last bank transfer and my transportation cost to Kansai Airport in Osaka. Marvin’s Arthritis?

It is 7.22.08 and it’s not as hot in Hamamatsu as it was in Kansai over the weekend.

Had a great day today. Kenley and Brenna left for Tokyo and they sound like they are going to have an awesome time staying at a Ryokan tonight, and are in hotels and hostels for the rest of the week. Hit the gym with Petar at 10 and we worked the bike for 40mins and then had breakfast at Royal Host. Rhonda joined us shortly after her swim at the pool and we had a great lunch. Rhonda and Petar are feeling more and more like family to me every day, and I think I’m going to miss our dynamic a lot. Continue reading ‘Marvin’s Arthritis?’

All Templed Out

It’s Monday, 7.21.08 and it is hot as fuck in Kyoto.

Woke up early and we checked out of the hostel. We put Kenley’s bag in a locker at Shiyakusho-mae subway station and headed to the Royal Host. Had a huge breakfast and lots of coffee, but was still feeling headache-y and sun stricken. It was still just as hot, nearing 35c and 90% humidity. Headed to Nijo-jo and checked out the castle and the attached gardens. I can’t get enough of that nightingale floor.

Back on the subway we hit Heianjingu via Hiashiyama. I don’t care how much fun Rhonda makes of me, “Aaron’s Subway Tour of Kyoto” is the best and easiest way to see Kyoto. It’s too bad we couldn’t see more, but I couldn’t walk anymore it was way too hot. Kenley and Brenna felt the same, and were “templed out” by then end. Lunch at Kapazushi and some shopping through the covered malls, Kenley and Brenna did some great power-shopping for souvenirs. They’re so efficient.

Took the shink back home, it was a full ride so we all sat separately. I played tactics and thought about not sleeping. Home now, my ‘Batman Animated Series’ collection is finally finished downloading and I’m editing and uploading photos. Kenley and Brenna are gone to Tokyo tomorrow and I have a skype date with Jeannine at noon.

Last Visit to Nara

7.20.08 was hot and humid in Nara. We spent the morning at the station figuring out Kenley and Brenna’s JR passes and having breakfast at the Dotour. It does not stand up to Royal Host. Headed to Kyoto by Shinkansen and decided on Nara for the day. Spending the majority of the day walking through the park to see Kofukuji and Todaiji and the rat-deer along the way. I call them rats because they know as soon as you buy some deer-cookies to feed to them, they run fiercely toward you. They remind me of my fat dog Seamus back home. God I can’t wait to get home to my dogs… and girlfriend.

Kenley and Brenna are great travelers and are mostly up for anything. We walked Nara up and down and bit off more than we could chew with the heat. We were exhausted and headed back to Kyoto to the hostel to settle in and shower. After introducing K & B to the cheapest and worst kept hostel in all of Japan and then showering in it, we headed out for some dinner. We walked downtown Kyoto for a while and had udon and ramen for dinner. Tired and sore, we headed home and blasted the aircon and fell asleep.

HICE Sayonara

It is Saturday 7.19.08 and it is hot and humid. It’s also my brother Drew’s birthday today and I have to call him tomorrow.

Today I woke up and went to run with Petar. We were out for a good 40mins and met Rhonda afterward. All of us decided to go to Royal Host for breakfast. I saw Kenley and Brenna there when we went and they were just leaving. Had a nice lunch with Petar and Rhonda, and then I left to get some cash for Kyoto tomorrow, and went to get a haircut. Had an excellent talk with my barber, he’s a cool old dude and I had a really nice chat with him before heading back to the apartment for my teaching gear and headed out for my classes. Not Doing Enough

It is Friday 7.18.08 and it is hot and humid and it rained a little during the day.

Got up and went for breakfast with Kenley. Brenna’s been feeling under the weather and stayed home. She has trouble with fried foods and high glutens, so deep-fried food and beer was probably a bad idea the night before. We hung out for a while and went back to the apartment. I had the day off and just had a handful of things to tie up during the day. Waiting until about noon for Petar to call about working out, I sent him a text and ended up just going by myself.
